This Bestselling Author’s AI-Guided Journaling App Wants To Unleash Your Inner Voice
Cornerstone VC has completed a pre-seed investment into Storia, the guided journaling app created by five-times bestselling author Elizabeth Uviebinené, to help people unleash their inner voice.
The Power of storytelling
Elizabeth Uviebinené, known for her bestselling book “Slay in Your Lane,” co-authored with Yomi Adegoke, has been at the forefront of literature catered to young Black women. Inspired by the impact storytelling had on her own life, Uviebinené developed the idea of Storia to help people uncover the stories that shape their lives.
The journaling app combines AI-guided prompts, on-demand sessions, reflections, and community to empowers users to reclaim their inner narratives, cultivate self-awareness, and foster a deeper connection with their authentic selves.
“We all have a unique story that shapes our lives,” Uviebinené said in a press release. “But in today’s world, we often feel unable to pause, reflect and take in life’s everyday lessons. We’re here to change that.”
Separating the signal from the noise
Traditional public health services to cope with the growing demand for mental health services, especially since the COVID-19 pandemic. While apps like Calm and Headspace have dominated the market with a focus on sleep and meditation, Uviebinené identified an opportunity for a network-driven digital tool that leverages the power of narrative therapy.
“As my favourite Toni Morrison quote says, ‘If there’s a book that you want to read, but it hasn’t been written yet, then you must write it,'” she explained on LinkedIn. “I couldn’t find a journaling app I loved, so I’m building it!”
In a press statement, Uviebinené said: “People already use the Notes app to capture their thoughts and ideas. Storia takes that one step further and empowers individuals to find their inner story and authentic voice. We will help people separate the signal from the noise.”
Pre-seed investment
Storia’s recent preseed funding round, led by Cornerstone VC, included notable angels such as Yomi Adegoke, Asi Sharabi, Dr. Fiona Pathiraja, Natalie Campbell MBE, and Ade Hassan MBE.
