R&B artist Brent Faiyaz and his business partner Ty Baisden have invested more than $100,000 in Black women-led STEM companies, according to Billboard.

Investing Music Profits Into Black Women-Led Businesses

Under their Lost Kids label, Faiyaz and Baisden operate a 50/50 business partnership that reinvests profits from Faiyaz’s music career into various ventures.

Their primary focus is on Black women-led businesses, particularly in the STEM fields.

“Those projects and his tours are the financial seeds for Brent and me to go out and make individual investments,” said Baisden.

The duo’s portfolio includes real estate investments in Atlanta and Dallas, as well as stakes in prominent startups such as Athletic Greens, Therabody, Audio Shake, and Seed.

“Show U Off” Grant Program Supports STEM Innovation

In 2021, Faiyaz and Baisden launched the “Show U Off” grant program, which awards $10,000 grants to Black women entrepreneurs in the Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) area.

The program, now in its fourth cycle, recently focused on companies in the STEM sector, providing grants to 12 businesses.

“This year was a heavy one with new ideas involving STEM companies,” Baisden said.  “Thus far, we’ve donated about half a million dollars or more to Black women-helmed businesses.”

Their investments aim to empower Black women entrepreneurs, providing them with the financial backing needed to succeed in competitive STEM fields.
