Pivot, Don’t Panic: New Data Reveals How Black And Latine Professionals Feel About AI In The Workplace
The rapid rise of AI is reshaping the workplace, and many Black and Latine professionals worry about falling behind.
More than half (54%) feel overwhelmed by the pace of change, and 49% worry about being left behind as AI makes current skills obsolete, according to LinkedIn data shared with POCIT.
LinkedIn Career Expert Andrew McCaskill says the solution isn’t to panic but to pivot, embracing continuous learning to stay competitive in this fast-evolving job market.
AI: A New Opportunity, But With Risks
While AI offers the potential for new job opportunities and career growth, it also poses risks, particularly for underrepresented groups.
Nearly half (45%) of Black and Latine professionals believe AI will significantly impact how they work within the next year.
Yet, 1 in 4 Black professionals feel unsure about how to begin learning these critical AI skills. With 30% motivated by promotion and pay raise opportunities, the pressure to keep up is immense.
Embracing AI for Career Growth
McCaskill advises Black and Latine professionals to embrace AI, emphasizing that career advancement depends on becoming comfortable with emerging technologies.
““When it comes to bringing AI into your work life, my advice to Black and Latino professionals is simple: ‘Don’t panic, pivot!’ I get it—AI can feel intimidating, but the key is to embrace continuous learning,” McCaskill told POCIT.
“Ask questions, dig into research, and remember that knowledge and information give you options, and options give you agency. You’re not expected to become an AI expert overnight, but just taking those first steps to understand and leverage AI can make a huge difference in your career.”
Nearly half (47%) believe mastering AI is essential for career progression, despite the overwhelming expectations at work.
By following AI thought leaders, leveraging LinkedIn Learning courses, and staying focused on long-term career goals, these professionals can thrive even as AI disrupts industries.
