Ohio Program For Black Founders In Need Of Venture Capital Investment To Debut Next Week

A new program for Black Founders is set to launch next week to help tackle the lack of strong venture capital investments in Black founders in Ohio.

JobsOhio will host the program in partnership with Eficionado LLC.

It aims to create, enhance, and promote an action collaborative to make Ohio a destination for Black founders and Black VCs based on the four Cs to success: culture, colleges, corporations, and capital, says Terry Gore, senior director, financial services at JobsOhio.

A new advisory council will also be announced at the event geared to offer tips on how Black founders can launch or expand their businesses.

The event will be from 6 pm to 8 pm Tuesday, January 25, at Hilton Columbus at Easton.

Black and Latinx founders raised $2.3 billion in funding as of August 31, 2020. The figure means that Black and Latinx founders harvested only 2.6% of $87.3 billion of all funding that founders got at that point in 2020, according to analytics firm Crunchbase

Other capital raising opportunities for minority founders to make their mark in the tech sector are listed below:

Black Valley

Black Valley recently launched its Black founder’s program. The initiative offers up to £10K for the founder’s business, mentorship, and guidance.

Its website says Black Valley works by pairing mentees with mentors who have had similar experiences of where that particular mentee aspires to be. The mentor will work with their mentee on a one-2-one basis via weekly calls tackling the topics and areas where the mentee requires support.

The mentoring program also includes small group training and skills sessions provided by the program’s expert network of mentors and access to its wider online community for more advice and specialist areas of expertise.

Black Founders Fund – Google

The $5M Google for Startups Black Founders Fund provides non-dilutive cash awards to Black-led startups that have participated in our programs or have been nominated by our partner community or a previous recipient.

Selected founders receive up to $100,000 in the capital along with Google Cloud credits, Google.org Ads grants, and hands-on support to help their startup grow.

Accenture Black Founders Development Program

Helping to level the playing field for Black technology startup founders and entrepreneurs through investment, mentorship, community, and support.

Led by Accenture Ventures, the new initiative will help improve Black communities’ ability to create wealth for those who previously did not have a seat at the table and enable the next generation of innovation.
