Black-Owned Networking Startup ‘Plain Sight’ Partners With The City Of Miami To Support Black Founders

Connection. That’s all we need to thrive as a community, and Plain Sight’s recent partnership with the City of Miami is a prime example of that.

Black-owned networking startup Plain Sight recently announced the launch of their inaugural Black Founders Demo Day. The networking event will take place on December 1 as a featured event at this year’s Art Basel. The annual event will allow attendees to connect with prominent angel investors and venture capital groups worldwide to showcase, inspire, and invest in Black and Brown wealth.

This year’s event will see sixteen companies selected to receive a $3,000 travel stipend and over $1m in investment opportunities from a range of angel investors and venture capital groups such as Florida Funders, Valor Ventures, and Base Ventures, Vestigo Ventures, and Precursor Ventures.

Plain Sight, co-founded in 2019 by James Chapman, Alex Johnston, and Alexis Matteson, works to transform the traditional ways of networking. Their digital platform, which uses online and in-person business communities, aims to make networking easier for all members and guests.

Users can easily connect through events, workspaces, and travel spaces using consumer-based technology. Not only is the app easily accessible for anyone to use from their phone, but it is also free for all to use.

“Our mission at Plain Sight is to create easier access to human capital,” said James Chapman, CEO and co-founder of Plain Sight.

“We understand how difficult it can be to get connected to someone who makes sense of what you’re doing. It’s especially difficult when you don’t already have a strong network to rely upon,” said Chapman.

“On August 20, we will use our product and network to help some of the best and brightest founders from all over the country meet the right investors and customers for their venture.”

In addition, the winners of the two regional pitch competitions will have the opportunity to showcase their start-up to 2,000+ potential customers and investors.
