Caleb Anderson Lands A Place At Georgia Tech At Just 13-Years-Old

In many ways, Caleb Anderson is like any other child his age—he enjoys swimming in his family’s pool at their home in Marietta, Georgia, and loves watching Marvel movies. But the one thing that makes him stand out is that at the tender age of 12, he enrolled in college to study aerospace engineering.

The Georgia Institute of Technology student’s journey reportedly started at just 3-weeks old when his mother noticed he was mimicking her motions.

At six months, Anderson was reading, and by the time he was nine months old, he already knew how to sign 250 words, according to Popular mechanics.

Before enrolling at Georgia Tech – he was a sophomore at Chattahoochee Technical College and hoped to intern with Elon Musk at SpaceX and eventually working at NASA.

But his parents, Claire and Kobi Anderson wanted a university they felt was the “right fit” for him and transferred him to Georgia Institute of Technology.

In an interview with AfroTech – he spoke about his journey.

“I’ve had a love for learning for a while and I think every child really does have that..I think my parents are the ones who really cultivated it and taught me how to use that love for learning and from there [that’s where] I got interested in science, technology, engineering, and math.”

What’s it like being in college at such a young age?

“I’m sort of getting to know my way around campus because you know, it’s a very intimidating place..There’s a lot of people here, but I’m getting a good schedule in place and navigating my way through school. My low so far is that I didn’t do really well on my first test,” Anderson said. “So, I think that’s sort of a place where I need to learn and grow.”

Where do you hope to be in the future?

“A dream job for me would be to build my own company for people who are like me, but don’t have the same financial opportunities and people who are like me, but aren’t always chosen or picked for the jobs that they really want,” he said. “I want to take these very intelligent people and build an empire with them.”

How do you stay grounded and remain a kid?

“I usually keep Saturdays off to myself to not do anything,” he said. “You know, even normal college kids or everyone needs time to just take a break for themselves because you need to sleep, you need to eat and you need to relax. School is very important, but it can’t consume your whole life.”

“I definitely like hanging out with my friends and vacationing is something else that I really enjoy,” he continued. “I like Marvel movies too.”
