Wray & Nephew Empowers UK Black Entrepreneurs With The Wray Forward Program

The Wray Forward

Wray & Nephew, the renowned Jamaican rum brand, has partnered with Foundervine to launch the third iteration of their ‘Wray Forward’ program.

Research by Wray & Nephew found that 68% of Black entrepreneurs in the UK experience a lack of business tools and resources.

Additionally, 76% think that having early access to the right tools could have accelerated their success. A fifth of Black entrepreneuers also needed help with fundraising.

These findings underlined the need for support in the Black entrepreneurial community.

The ‘Wray Forward’ Initiative

The ‘Wray Forward’ initiative connects Black entrepreneurs with business founders to enhance their business visibility and success.

The program features nine expert-led workshops from April to November, covering business skills that offer Black entrepreneurs knowledge for growth and success.

The initiative also gives access to networking events and ‘Founder Growth Circles’, allowing entrepreneurs to connect with peers and gain insights.

The program includes roundtable discussions, four “Founder Growth Circles,” and coaching sessions in four key sectors, including tech and creative industries.

Additionally, during Wray Forward’s pitch nights, six entrepreneurs also pitch their ideas to a panel and win cash prizes of £3,000 ($3,790), £1,5000 ($1,895), and £500 ($631).

“Black founders face numerous limitations, including restricted access to capital, networks, and opportunities,” said Izzy Obeng, co-founder of Foundervine, according to Complex.

“In 2024, we’re aiming to help more Black founders and entrepreneurs by breaking down these barriers and providing tailored support and resources. We’re delighted to be working with Wray & Nephew to equip Black founders with the tools and knowledge needed to navigate the entrepreneurial landscape successfully.”
