This Black-Owned AR App Lets Clinicians Interact With Patient Data Hands-Free

seeCOLe

seeCOLe (see Clinical Data On Lens) is a wearable augmented reality health app revolutionizing how clinicians interact with electronic health records in real time.

Using the app, healthcare professionals can interact with patient data using voice commands, removing the need to navigate patient records manually.

CEO, founder, and lead developer Carl Osborne told POCIT about the pioneering spirit behind the app’s creation and how he hopes to make a lasting impact on the healthcare system.

Inspired by Mary Seacole

Jamaican-British nurse Mary Seacole inspires the company’s name. During the 19th-century Crimean War, Seacole provided soldiers with support and medical assistance despite facing significant obstacles and prejudices.

Seacole’s commitment resonates with Carl Osborne, a Caribbean American with strong ties to his neighborhood in Brooklyn, NY, and family previously working in the health care system.

“We draw upon a rich tapestry of personal experiences and influences that drive the company’s vision of diversity and inclusivity in health,” Osborne told POCIT.

The concept of seeCOLe

seeCOLe aims to enhance healthcare professionals’ abilities by providing advanced AR devices which enable improved depth perception, augmented reality overlays, and hands-free interaction.

Osborne said this allows clinicians to perform procedures more accurately and efficiently, promoting patient safety.

It, too, empowers professionals to access vital information, navigate procedures, and document and dictate notes in real-time.

“The ultimate goal is to enhance patient care and outcomes by merging cutting-edge technology with healthcare expertise,” said Osborne.

The company has already significantly impacted the healthcare industry thus far. Osborne explained that by enhancing how clinicians visualize patient data, seeCOLe has improved patient education and engagement, helping to bridge the health gap between diverse groups.

Implementing Diversity in Healthcare

Led by a diverse team, seeCOLe’s products and services are designed with diversity in mind.

“In the technologies, we consider cultural sensitivity, language support, and usability for individuals with different abilities,” said Osborne.

The company also often collaborates with diverse stakeholders to understand their unique needs and challenges while working towards developing solutions to address their concerns.

The Future of healthcare apps

Osborne has ambitious plans to enhance seeCOLefurther and expand its reach in the healthcare industry.

This includes investing in research and developments to enhance its current solutions and developing new features and functionalities that address evolving healthcare needs.

“We envision expanding the market’s footprint on a global scale,” said Osborne, while keeping the importance on customer satisfaction and building long-lasting relationships with clients.

“Ultimately, the long-term goal is to establish seeCOLe as a trusted and influential player in healthcare and augmented reality,” concluded Osborne.
