Streamer Kai Cenat Confirms $5M Project To Build School In Nigeria Following Online Pressure

Kai Cenat

Kai Cenat recently confirmed plans for his Nigerian school after months of speculation and criticism from fans. In 2024, the streamer visited the Makoko Children Development Foundation School and Orphanage in Lagos, where he saw the dire conditions of the students and staff.

After seeing the school’s sinking building, limited space, and the struggle to provide a learning environment for its 385 students, Cenat wanted to help.

Cenat announced plans to construct a new school in the Makoko community. In the announcement, he asked people living in Nigeria or on the African continent to put him in contact with anyone who would like to work and assist in bringing the school to life.

What is going on with Cenat’s school?

A year and a half after the announcement, fans started to question the charitable cause. As on-stream updates became less frequent and donations began to accumulate, viewers started asking Cenat for more information.

But now new information about the school emerged at the beginning of Mafiathon 3, a celebrity-filled broadcast. Fanny Moral and Chinedum Umeche flew in from South Africa and Nigeria to discuss the project. The two representatives are from Banwo & Ighodalo and Enko Education.

They emphasized how “it’s impossible” to build a new school from scratch in under two years. Ultimately, they want this school “to last for a long time,” Cenat said. “Beyond me, beyond streaming,” according to Dexerto.

“From land purchase and approvals to construction, staffing, and curriculum. There’s a great deal involved, as an accompanying slideshow conveyed.”

How much of Cenat’s revenue is allocated to the school?

Cenat shared that 15% of revenue from the broadcast will go towards building the school in Nigeria. If he reaches his goal of a million Twitch subscribers, that will mean $750,000 USD will be allocated for the project, excluding higher-tier subscriptions.

The group has established the Kai Cenat Foundation Inc. to help provide complete transparency moving forward. This charity will ensure that all funds are accounted for and that no individual can personally profit.

The charity is seeking a total investment of $5 million to “get us to the first day of class,” Cenat said. “That’s what we’re aiming for.”
