Drake Vs. Kendrick: The Hip-Hop Rivalry Hits The Gaming World With Viral Video Games
In response to the success of Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us: The Game,” Drake fans have quickly followed suit by launching their own video game, “Family Matters: The Game.”
The move comes after Lamar’s game captivated over 1.2 million players within its first 36 hours.
Kendrick Lamar’s Viral Success
Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us: The Game” has taken the gaming world by storm since its release last week.
Developed by Richie Branson, also known as Marcus Brown II, the game is inspired by Lamar’s song “Not Like Us.”
In the game, players control Lamar as he smashes owl piñatas with a baseball bat, progressively increasing in difficulty. Each hit releases candy, and players hear the word “wop” as the speed intensifies.
The unique concept and engaging mechanics quickly garnered 1.2 million players in just 36 hours.
“I did this for the people. It was a love letter to hip-hop, designed for maximum enjoyment. Kendrick smacking owls around was my way of expressing my love for the genre,” Branson told Rolling Stone.
Drake Fans’ Counterattack with ‘Family Matters’
Not to be outdone, Drake fans swiftly retaliated by creating “Family Matters: The Game.”
The game, which surfaced on an X account on July 22, takes a playful jab at Lamar, featuring a challenge where players shoot Grammy Award trophies into Kendrick’s mouth.
As the levels increase, so does the difficulty, with Kendrick’s head moving side-to-side, all set to a digitized version of the “Family Matters” instrumental.
The game’s credits include a pointed message: “Made by some real ones to prove a point.”
Fans of Drake have found the game amusing, with one commenting, “Nah this is hilarious whoever made this.”
