TripAdvisor’s New Feature Lets Businesses Self-Identify As Black-Owned And More
Businesses in the US and Canada can now self-identify as Black-owned on Tripadvisor.
The world’s largest travel guidance company decided to launch the new feature after research showed that 77% of Black-owned businesses and 63% of Hispanic/Latinx-owned businesses actively use their platform.
Tripadvisor aims to use the data gathered on its users to help make accommodation providers and restaurants-owners feel safe and welcomed on the platform.
Now more than ever, it is crucial that POC-led businesses get the recognition they deserve to help amplify their voice and make their businesses more discoverable online.
“Representation is extremely important to the millions of businesses listed on our platform and the hundreds of millions of travelers and diners they serve,” said Kanika Soni, the chief commercial officer of Tripadvisor.
“Enabling hotels and restaurants to celebrate their diversity is another way we’re providing helpful guidance to those who want to support these businesses when visiting Tripadvisor.”
The new feature rolled out two days ago has already seen hundreds of businesses use it, ultimately helping thousands of travelers quickly discover them.
Listing your business on TripAdvisor is free for all, and self-identifying is also optional. The platform’s primary intent is to make it a space that is “more inclusive of the diverse communities using its influential website and app.”
