This Online Store Is Relaunching During Black Breastfeeding Week To Tackle The Health Disparities Faced By Black Women
Mykel B Davis, CEO of Muscle Up Mommy and creator of MUMFEST health and wellness festival, is set to relaunch Muscle Up Mommy online store during Black Breastfeeding Week. The relaunch brings back its sought-after wearable Breast Pump.
“Muscle Up Mommy is making a bold statement: access, innovation, and representation in maternal health should not be optional—they’re essential,” Davis said in a press release shared with POCIT.
Disparities in breastfeeding
Black women in the US face significant disparity in breastfeeding rates, with lower rates of initiation and duration compared to white women due to structural racism, limited access to lactation support, and maternal health factors like obesity and hypertension, according to a study in the National Library of Medicine.
Black Breastfeeding Week was created to tackle these disparities. During this week, Davis is bringing back the wearable Breast Pump.
“Representation matters, reclaiming space for black moms to be included in a once very taboo topic of breastfeeding is important, and also re-introducing our handsfree wearable device that make the journey easier for moms all around the world is and will continue to be our mission,” Davis says.
“We have to close the gap between motherhood, wellness and entrepreneurship, and there’s no better time than now.”
