‘Nkuzi STEM’ Launches In Nigeria: Breaking Down Barriers For Young People In Tech
The Rector Cares Foundation has launched Nkuzi STEM, a pioneering program creating pathways for young people across Nigeria aged 15-20 to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
“The lack of diversity in technology not only limits the industry’s potential but also perpetuates inequality,” said Rector Cares Foundations founder Onyedikachi Erete.
“Nkuzi STEM seeks to break down those barriers and create a tech landscape that reflects the richness of our society.”
Improving lives for Nigerians
The Rector Cares Foundation, a non-governmental organization focused on empowering communities in Nigeria with clean and safe water, is the brainchild of Nigerian social entrepreneur Onyedikachi Erete.
Growing up in a rural community in Imo State, Erete witnessed the challenges people face due to a lack of access to basic amenities firsthand.
After graduating from university, he moved to Lagos to pursue a career as a software engineer.
He shared that his early life experiences and passion for social justice led him to found the Rector Cares Foundation as well as Kassala, a security app for women in Nigeria.
Through his partnership with Grundfos Foundation, a Danish commercial foundation, he is empowering young Nigerians with the skills and resources to bring about change in their own communities and beyond.
Nkuzi STEM
Nkuzi STEM is a pioneering program dedicated to empowering and motivating young individuals to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
Nkuzi, derived from the Igbo Language, means “Learn”. With a strong emphasis on inclusivity, the initiative is designed to bridge the gap in tech diversity, build a brighter future for the next generation, and introduce them to STEM.
Through workshops, seminars, and hands-on training, Nkuzi STEM will equip school students across the country with the skills and confidence to make a significant impact in the world of STEM.
The program was launched in October at Federal Government Girls College, Lejja Enugu. The school’s students will gain access to various programs and resources, including coding boot camps, scholarships, and networking opportunities.
