Former Fox Soul Exec Launches Streaming Platform Dedicated To Black Culture

James DuBose, former General Manager of Fox Soul, is launching In The Black Network, an Advertising-Based Video on Demand (AVOD) platform dedicated to celebrating and amplifying Black culture.

The platform will launch on October 2 of this year.

“I love everything about our culture: our faith, our resilience, our rhythm, our minds, our love. These pillars are the focus of our curated content which honors and elevates black culture and cultivates pride within our community,” James DuBose told Deadline.

In The Black Network

The platform will be a streaming service highlighting Black voices and original stories, with a long list of entertainment available from the vault of Fox Television stations. 

The network will stream free entertainment content on an app available on iOS, Android devices, Apple TV, YouTube, and Samsung media players.

“Throughout my career, I’ve always aimed to uplift Black voices, so bringing this new network to fruition is extremely personal and important to me,” said DuBose.

“We want viewers to feel connected to authentic stories that speak to our culture and gain a shared sense of self from enjoying our entertainingly inspired content.”

The service will include multi-genre content, including sports, music, scripted drama, talk, kids/ family, and feature films.

DuBose’s Career

As a long-time TV producer, filmmaker, and entertainment industry veteran, DuBose became inspired to build his Black-owned streaming platform to uplift Black storytellers while symbolizing Black pride.

He has partnered with numerous content companies, including Pocket. Watch; a digital-first kids and family studio, Black Waterhorse; a veteran distributor of Black indie films, Maverick Entertainment; a leading distributor and producer of niche, independent, and Black cinema content, along with some of Fox Soul’s licensed library shows.

DuBose shared his new project on LinkedIn, writing, “I’m grateful to so many because this moment didn’t happen with just me!” as he thanked the entire Fox family.
