Black-Owned Private Members Club The Gathering Spot Makes A Comeback With New Roof-Top Venue

The Gathering Spot

Black-founded and centered membership club The Gathering Spot has announced its most ambitious plan to date: a 60,000-square-foot space in Atlanta called The Retreat. The new space features a rooftop pool, co-working spaces, and two restaurants, which will cost members $3,100 for an annual membership, according to The Inc.

The Gathering Spot’s history

The Gathering Spot appears to be on good, solid ground following its shaky merger with Greenwood. In 2022, it announced that Greenwood had acquired it. However, there were reported disputes between the two companies, including reports of a lawsuit filed by TGS co-founders Ryan Wilson and T’Keel Petersen.

They alleged that Greenwood co-founder and CEO Ryan Glover, and board member Dr Paul Judge had committed fraud and deception. Both parties eventually decided to go their separate ways.

The Inc. reported that The Gathering Spot has raised $25 million in the past decade. Big names, including T.I., Big Sean, Charles Barkley, Cam Newton, Baron Davis, Tricky Stewart, and Will Packer, have allegedly invested in the company, according to AFROTECH.

The Retreat

In an interview on “The Black Tech Green Money” podcast Wilson said, “I wanted our community to have access to the best spaces around.”

“This is world class space that we can go head-to-head with any favorite rooftop that you have around. It really is that sort of product. But the second thing is that I’ve always known that people connect or want to connect for different reasons,” he added.

When film and TV producer Will Packer first visited the original location soon after it opened, he said, “I instantly felt the energy.” “It wasn’t just a space; it was a movement. I knew right then they were building something special, something the culture needed,” he adds.
