Afro Unicorn Leaps Into The Digital Realm with Roblox Partnership

Afro Unicorn has announced its expansion into immersive gaming platform Roblox.

Founded in 2019 by April Showers, Afro Unicorn is a brand designed to represent the uniqueness of women and children of color in a truly diverse and inclusive fashion.

“Bringing Afro Unicorn to Roblox is a momentous occasion to positively impact a new generation of youth, including digital trendsetters and innovators,” said Showers in a press release.

Creating Afro Unicorn

Showers’ journey to creating Afro Unicorn was sparked by a desire to see more inclusive representations of beauty and empowerment.

In a Forbes interview, Showers, a single mother of two, shared how overcoming imposter syndrome inspired her to establish a brand that resonates with others like her.

Facing the pressures of parenting, running businesses, and supporting her family, she aimed to uplift those encountering life’s hurdles.

She envisioned a symbol of inner strength, believing everyone should recognize their inner unicorn.

Disappointed by the lack of diversity in unicorn emojis on her iPhone, she commissioned an illustrator for a design that embraced Black beauty. This led to the creation of a brand dedicated to celebrating inclusivity and resilience.

Championing representation

In 2019, Showers founded Afro Unicorn as a direct-to-consumer e-commerce business.

The brand has since expanded into over 25 categories, available in more than 40,000 stores, including a historic launch in Walmart in May 2022, becoming the first Black-owned, woman-founded business with a licensed character brand to be carried in major retail.

“My main goal for Afro Unicorn is to ensure Black girls and women feel unique, divine, and magical,” Showers previously shared. “Afro Unicorn is more than a line of products. It’s a movement to make sure Black people are represented and have a seat at the table.”

Roblox debut

This partnership with Roblox represents another milestone in Afro Unicorn’s mission to normalize Black beauty and inspire others.

Roblox users can now explore the Afronia universe, dressing their avatars in Afro Unicorn’s digital clothing and accessories, available through the Roblox Marketplace.

Additional designs will be introduced, with monthly drops scheduled throughout the spring and summer.

This collaboration not only introduces the brand’s uplifting message to a broader audience but also sets a precedent for representation in the gaming industry.
