Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith’s Westbrook Inc., a multimedia and entertainment venture company, is entering the anime world through a strategic partnership with the newly formed Studio Azuki.

Studio Azuki, a US-based animation company, is a joint venture between NFT brand Azuki and Japanese firms Comisma Inc. and Xenotoon Inc. The studio aims to merge Web3 technology with anime to create next-gen content for global audiences.

The collaboration will combine Studio Azuki’s production skills with Westbrook’s extensive Hollywood network and expertise in global entertainment, as first reported by Variety.

Studio Azuki plans to expand its global partnership with Japan’s anime culture to champion new production models, enhance storytelling quality, facilitate fan collaboration, and introduce social-first formats. Azuki has launched several initiatives guided by its Anime 2.0 vision, including the “Enter The Garden” anthology series, Anime.com, and has served as an early contributor to the Animecoin Foundation.

The studio will continue to explore how these platforms and blockchain technology can transform anime financing, production, and consumption.

In terms of production, Comisma boasts impressive industry credentials as the operator of the manga app Ganma! and the owner of the high-end animation studio Qzil.la. Xenotoon brings a robust 2D/3D production pipeline and creator-first studio network.

“By joining forces with Comisma and Xenotoon, we’re combining deep, authentic anime production expertise with fresh creative energy and global perspective,” said Feb Tea, head of content at Azuki Labs.
