How The Tech World Is Supporting Those In Ukraine: MTN Nigeria Makes All Calls To And From Ukraine Free

Karl Olutokun Toriola, a telecommunications engineer who is currently serving as the Chief Executive Officer of MTN Nigeria, announced that in an effort to aid the citizens of Ukraine, MTN Nigeria has announced that they have made all the calls to and from Ukraine free.

MTN Group Limited, formerly M-Cell, is a South African multinational mobile telecommunications company, operating in many African and Asian countries. Its head office is in Johannesburg.

“We understand that some of our customers in Ukraine have experienced challenges to contact their loved ones.

As a result, we have stepped in with support to ensure that our customers, both at home and in Ukraine, are still able to connect with family and friends. All of our customers will benefit from the waived SMS and voice call fees to and from Ukraine.

This blanket waiver has been put in place as an immediate response to the need.” he said.

It comes after Google said they use their office space in Poland to offer humanitarian aid to Ukrainian refugees, the company announced Monday.

On March 4, Google announced over $20 million in financial support for Ukrainian refugees seeking refuge in Poland, including a $10 million donation to aid refugee efforts in Poland, and a $2.6 million donation to the Polish Center for International Aid Foundation, an organization which helps evacuate Ukrainian refugees to safe havens and provides transport to and from border areas.

Microsoft announced it has suspended all new sales in Russia in order to further aid Ukraine in the war. Microsoft’s statement, released last week Friday, said the company is working closely with the US, the European Union, and the United Kingdom to coordinate government sanctions against Russia.

Their decision came after several companies stopped sales and doing business in Russia including Apple, Nike, Toyota, Honda and Volkswagen.
